Biography[]

Arnold "Arnie" Rosen is Sylvia Rosen's husband and Mitchell's father. He is a cardiac surgeon who lives in Don and Megan's building.

Friendship with Don Draper[]

He saves the life of Jonesy, the doorman, by administering CPR (The Doorway, Part 1). During a New Year's Eve party at the Drapers, he gets an emergency call. There is a blizzard outside, so he and Don go to the building's storage room to get his skis and he departs in the middle of the night to get to his hospital to perform the emergency surgery. Affable and conscientious, he and Don establish a relatively close friendship. When Arnie is trapped in Washington, DC, during the riots following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a visibly distressed Don, who is having an affair with Arnie's wife Sylvia Rosen, tries to reach him several times. Arnold quits his job in New York when his hospital cancels the plans for him to perform a revolutionary, life-saving cardiac transplant. He is also a staunch patriot but acknowledges America's shaky status in the world during the late 1960s. He references the Tet Offensive in Vietnam and the capture of the USS Pueblo by North Korea as the result of America not taking its enemies seriously and cites Fidel Castro as the original example. He is last seen with his wife in season 7, having reconciled.
