Mad men’s time period explained
The TV show Mad Men primarily takes place in the 1960s, beginning in March 1960 and concluding in November 1970.
Wiki migration to UCP
Hi everyone! As your Wiki Manager, I wanted to make sure I shared important information about an upcoming change happening across Fandom that will affect all its communities, this one included. Fandom is currently working on migrating all its wikis to a new Unified Community Platform (UCP for short). You can read more about this in this blog.
If you still have questions about what that all entails after reading the blog, don't hesitate to ask them here. I'll be happy to supply you with an answer or find one for you in case I don't know myself.
You can also check the page Help:UCP to find out more.
Wiki migrations had been put on hold for a while in order to give the engineering team more time to fix some issues regarding the editor and admin exp…
Fandom update on Featured Video
Hello everyone!
I'm here with another update from Fandom. This one is regarding what is going on with the Featured Video area.
They are going to be making some experiments in order to find out what is best for that area, one of which is The Loop, a mini-show produced by Fandom that talks about content based on the vertical that the topic is about (for this wiki, it would be related with TV and movies). For more information, you may visit the blog post about it.
(If you are a newcomer to Fandom wikis and don't know exactly what I'm talking about - Featured Video is a video that appears above the content area of articles. Earlier this year, some changes happened so that logged-in users don't see these videos by default, but unidentified users can…
Fandom's Global Taxonomy
Hello Mad Men Wiki users!
I have been going around informing wikis about Fandom's newest blog about the Global Taxonomy project. To put it simply: the "related pages" between different wikis should start becoming more connected based on the relationship between their content.
So for example, for Mad Men, if there are articles in common with another wiki (such as cast and crew pages, etc.), then these would be better connected in terms of sections of recommended pages to visit. This should be exciting - we will be able to start seeing some of this early next year.
For more information, feel free to check the blog post at Community Central.
Also, seeing as I'm here, there is also a recent Best Practices blog on templates and scripting which could…

flashback phone call
hi. I am new to this. I have a question that I am hoping some one can help me with. there is a scene in an apparent flashback, where don draper says apparently unexpectedly, I have to go to California; pack your things. I have tried to find it without success. it is very brief. thx.

Join AMC In Celebrating The End Of An Era Of Mad Men
After seven amazing seasons, and almost a hundred episodes, our beloved Mad Men is nearing the end of its run. In celebration and anticipation of the final seven episodes of what Rolling Stone hails as "the greatest TV drama of all time" (we tend to agree), AMC, in conjunction with Lionsgate and cultural institutions from coast to coast, will honor Mad Men through exhibitions, screenings, events and discussions. If you are fortunate enough to be able to attend any of these events, please comment below or write your own blog about your experience for those of us, like me, who are not close enough to participate.
The following is a list of the events we know of so far, where they will be held, and what to expect from them, if you know of an even…
Three Projects
1. Adding in every client or brand that has even been mentioned. Will go back and do research and fill in details and info boxes (any help is appreciated). Consider these all stubs
2. Adding in all pop culture references such as books, movies, television shows. These are the ephemera that make the show so captivating. (For instance, Dante's Inferno and Meditations in an Emergency ). The category and sub-category hierarchy on this really needs to be settled.
3. Character Galleries - these really do not make sense to me. There seems to be a lack of consistency. For instance, Gallery:Don Draper is not included in the category Character Galleries. Likewise with all other character galleries. Once again, a structured hierarchy or logic of …
The Massive Task of Updating
Change and moving forward is one of the themes of Mad Men. The characters are going through transitions quickly. Compare any character in Season 1 to the same Character in Season 7 and the change will be astounding. Even Bert Cooper who never changed much at all - now he's dead!
As I have been working through this wiki I see the need to update it. The task is gargantuan, but I say . . . prepare to take a great leap forward! Prepare to swim the English Channel and then drown in champagne!
What I like about "Mad Men"
What I like about this show is that in the 1960s, Sterling Cooper makes some advertisements for the works.
Season 7 Premiere Party Menu
Hey there Mad Men fans!
Are you as excited for the Season 7 premiere as we are?
It's only a few days away, airing this coming Sunday, and according to the promo "everything is up in the air". Well, one thing doesn't have to be up in the air- your premiere party menu! Enjoy these Mad Men themed recipes.
Every classic 1960s dinner party has some deviled eggs to start. This recipe was a top contender from last year's Mad Men Food Fiction.
Found in every major household in the 1950s and 1960s, the Green Bean Casserole is the quintessential homemaker dish. Prepare the casserole with a can of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup for authenticity.
The créme de la créme of main courses- this elegant Beef Wellington will be a definite party pleaser.

Don't Look in the Mirror: Reflections on Mad Men Season Six
Don't Look In The Mirror: Reflections on MAD MEN Season 6
is a collection of episode analyses by Wikia contributor John Doherty. Doherty is a caricaturist and illustrator, and MAD MEN fan. 2013 he collected his recaps and analyses of Season 5 and added sketches of characters from the show with each chapter and then published this work of criticism on Amazon. This is the followup work on Season 6. Radio talk show host Jordan Rich says "John Doherty really digs into what it's all about. I'm just amazed- the way he explains it is fabulous".

Wikia's Mad Men Cocktail Party
Whether it is Don drinking a Blue Hawaiian on the beach, Roger reaching for his third Gibson Martini, or Betty sipping on her Vodka Gimlet, it is safe to say that cocktails play a dominant role in this popular AMC TV series. Each character has their go-to cocktail. With this in mind, and in honor of the sixth season of Mad Men, the Wikia Staff hosted a Food Fiction contest for users to design a fictional "Mad Men Cocktail Hour".
With your help, we created a menu that Don himself would approve of. The Wikia Staff created the cocktails and appetizers in real life! Old Fashioned Cocktails, Tom Collins, Mojitos, and Greyhounds were served at the party alongside gourmet Coconut Shrimp and Pigs in a Blanket appetizers (the pigs in a blanket were a …

Comments on the site
I have a critique of the site's approach to informing us about the characters and events.
Some of us viewers do not have cable, and are therefore unable to keep up with the show in realtime. I, for example, am catching the episodes on Netflix. This means I'm always at best one season behind the show's actual events.
The problem, then, is the potential for revailing TMI in the character wikis. I just accidentally got a serious spoiler on Pryce while reading his bio. That, frankly speaking, should never happen.
I would like to suggest that the biographical information for each character be laid out in a structured fashion, season by season. That way, those of us still in Season 5 would know to stop reading when we arrive at the Season 6 se…
Mad Men Cocktail Party contest ideas
Hi everyone,
I'm Annette from Wikia, and I'm working on a fun program upcoming around designing the ultimate Mad Men Cocktail Party menu.
Here's the idea:
- Wikia would create a post that asks users from around Wikia to nominate their favorite cocktails in four categories and one hors d'oeuvres item.
- We post the recipes for the cocktails and food in Top 10 lists, asking people to vote up the recipes they love most.
- After voting closes, we on the Wikia staff will prepare the final menu of five items and then serve those drinks and dishes to Wikia's San Francisco office team! We promise to take photos.
- We'll also ask any Wikians who host their own party (particularly if you host a Finale party) to please their own photos!
We're planning to launch …
Why Mad Men is my favorite
It is simple really!
When I first tuned in on the show, it was on Netflix, it almost being a 5 star rating I decided to give it a shot! And I fell in love!
The realism, the great acting, writing, directing, it made me fall in love with such things like Mad Men!

Season 6 Predictions
Season 6 is so close!! I've been thinking about what might be in store for us, and I'm going out on a limb (more so on some than others) with a few predictions of my own:
- Don will cheat on Megan (thank you, Captain Obvious), but I think he really does respect and love Megan, so I think he'll actually feel bad about it. (way to make strides, double-D)
- Joan will be objectified less - now that she's a partner. (hoping I'm wrong here)
- Roger will do more drugs. (after all, this is the dawning of the age of Aquarius...)
- Peggy will flourish in Manhattan. She really has built a great life for herself, and now that Don isn't holding her back, I think her character is going to experience a lot of growth this season. We will almost certainly see a whole new loo…

Don't Look In The MIrror: Reflections on MAD MEN Season 5
Don't Look In The Mirror: Reflections on MAD MEN Season 5 is a collection of episode analyses by Wikia contributor John Doherty. Doherty is a caricaturist and illustrator, and MAD MEN fan. Last year he began posting recaps with analysis of episodes on his website, and in 2013 he collected these and added sketches of characters from the show with each chapter and then published this work of criticism on Amazon. Season 4, Season 1 and Joan and Roger
Superrrrrr excited :) Got my Mad Men Season 5 DVD FINALLY!
In terms of editing Joan and Roger, I've started audience commentary but haven't finished. Season 4 however pretty much has all the screencaps up, so take a look at them - the episodes look lush! :D
I've started re-editing Season 1, finished Smoke Gets In Your Eyes today, take a peek. Ive added much more detail and screencaps. Ill start Season's 2, 3 and 5 as soon as I've finished Season 1. :)
Just a quick update! Happy Editing.

Joan and Roger Seasons 4 and 2
Ok guys, I have created a page called Joan and Roger - it isnt complete so feel free to contribute. There are things that need to go on, such as screencaps and I havent gotten round to doing a bit of a audience commentary on that page yet, but ill get done in the next couple of weeks or so...
One of my primary focuses is getting screencaps for seasons 2 and 3, and since I get most of my screencaps from my dvds, I have run the episode to get the necessary captures and each episode is about 45 mins long as you well know, and that alone can take up so much time. However tomorrow night is my night off, so that is what I'll be doing.
Happy editing everyone. x
Season 4 and Joan and Greg
Hey guys, so while I'm still editing Season 4, I created a new page...its called Joan and Greg and its linked to both Greg Harris and Joan Harris' pages, so if you wanna spare a few minutes check that out!
I basically got the inspiration to do a Joan and Greg page after visiting a few other wikia pages and seeing that on different wikia's have pages for couples, so I thought why not do one for Joan and Greg since there is so much to be said! I've also included a few analyical commentaries on the page from an audience members perspective, so have a look and tell me what you think.
Im also rewatching Seasons 2 and 3 to gather screen captures for those Seasons, which I will get a start on after I finish Season 4. Also after doing a Greg and Joa…
Season 4
Ok, really got my eyes glued to my laptop and made a few observational notes in terms of reading into the Mad Men narrative as a whole and come up with the following conclusions and predictaments.
Firstly let me say that Season 4: Restructuring is well on its way, the completed episodes are (Note that the episodes marked with a [*] are episodes without quotes sections:
- Public Relations*
- Christmas Comes But Once a Year
- The Good News
- The Rejected *
- The Chrysanthemum and The Sword*
- Waldorf Stories*
- The Suitcase
Also I have been thinking about costuming and wardrobe fit into many of the character's narrative journey, focusing primarily on the women of Mad Men and to be honest I think it'll be worth mentioning how wardrobe plays an intricate part in tel…
Seasons 4 and 5
Although I've started uploading pictures and restructurning Season 5 - its far from finished! I'm still waiting on my Mad Men Season 5 dvd, so can get more screencaps and it'll be much easier for me when it comes to updating the synopsis' and what not.
In the mean time however, I'm gonna get a crack onto Season 4...
...Until next time, see you later x
Finished Season 1
Finally finished restructuring Season 1, it took time but now it looks MUCH better - super syked about it! :D All episode for Season 1 now have screencaps, content boxes, episode thumbnails, a mini-synopsis, a fully detailed synopsis and not all episodes have quotes sections yet, but I'll get round to it! :D...roll on Season 2.
Here is a list of the Season one episodes without quotes sections:
Marriage of FigaroNew Amsterdam5GRed in the FaceThe Hobo CodeIndian SummerNixon vs. Kennedy
Happy Editing. x
SCRATCH THAT! - Just decided I'm not satisfied with Season One, and it will be something I will be revisiting later...
Restructuring...
I've nearly finished restructuring Season 1, not finished yet, but will be in the next couple of days. Now each episode should have a contents box, an episode thumbnail, a mini-synopsis; separate from the detailed synopsis (for those who don't want spoilers), screencaps and a quotes section. Also each "cast" section now have sub-sections, just to make the episode look cleaner.
Soon I'll be on to cleaning up Season 2 :)
Happy Editing. x
Episode thumbnails
Thumbnail day :) Every episode should have a thumbnail now, to sort of indicate roughly what the episode is about, check those out. And finished updating Seasons 1, 2 and 3 in terms of uploading thumbnails onto the episode tables. Every episode and Seasons 1, 2 and 3 pages look much cleaner now.
Toodle-y-do for now. x
Edits
Been a busy bunny, uploading quite pictures to different articles - just a few I'm insanely proud of are Joan Harris, The Beautiful Girls, Hands and Knees, Dark Shadows are examples of articles I re-wrote, I know already people have contributed to the Joan Harris page already, so thank you for that - let me know what you think. Also I've been adding various pictures/screen-caps to different episodes - I've already covered half of Season 5 - also including a "Quotes" section. Again let me know what you think, I've started to re-structure Greg Harris; it isn't finished yet but will be soon, along with other episodes I've started but not finished yet.
That's all for now.
Editing
If I edit something that you've written, dont take it personally :) Just expressing my love for Mad Men :)
Happy Editing everyone :D

I started a top 10 list for best current cable drama over at the wikia entertainment hub:
Top 10 list: Current cable dramas
Game of Thrones is leading the voting at the time of writing with my single solitary vote but any of you discerning viewers who have an opinion are more than welcome to join in. New Mad Men Portraits Released
Mad Men is such a visually stimulating show, isn't it? The costumes, the good-looking actors, the authenticity of the 1960s style...it's fantastic! Well, feast your eyes on the latest Mad Men portraits below. Like usual, Don Draper looks dashing and dark, and Sally Draper is looking positively pre-teen. And isn't it interesting seeing Peggy Olson in lime green instead of her usual office wear? Hmmm...
