Biography[]
Eugene "Gene" Hofstadt was the father of Betty Hofstadt.
Gene fought in the World War 1 and kept a helmet from a Prussian soldier he had shot in the head.
He had 2 children, Betty and William, with his wife, Ruth Hofstadt. After Ruth died of cancer, Gene married Gloria Massey who eventually left him after his stroke. ("Love Among the Ruins")
He disliked Don Draper but eventually agreed to move in with him and Betty for a short time, during which he grew especially close to Sally Draper, whom he had taught how to drive. Not long afterward he dies while waiting in line at the A&P.
Betty sees visions of her father while in a dreamlike state at the hospital to give birth to her third child, whom she names Eugene Scott Draper in honor of her father. ("The Fog")
