The episode opens with Joan entering Rogers office, here she tells Roger that she is "very late", implying she is pregnant. She explains that due to the fact Greg has been gone for seven weeks, it has to be Roger's. Roger comforts her, offering is support he tells her he will "take care of it", seeing that Joan can't possibly go to her doctor.
 
   
Don calls the Francis household where Betty picks up the phone. Don asks if he can talk to Sally, hesistate at first, but with Betty's encouragement Sally eventually comes to the phone. Don tells her she's going to be the envy of all her friends since Don is taking her to see the Beatles that Sunday, in an adolesent heap of excitement Sally screams up and down thanking her father; while Betty stares at Sally excited for her.

Scarlett buzzes Lane telling him he has a guest waiting in reception, overwhelmed with excitement he gathers a bouquet of balloons as he thinks his son, Nigel has come to visit. Upon arriving at reception he sees it is not his son come to greet him, but rather his father, Robert. Here Robert tells Lane that he has come to "bring Lane home" back to England since Rebecca, Lanes wife has a particular disdain for New York. Lane refuses but proposes he and his father should "dine" together that evening, which Robert accepts.

Throughout the episode it is more than evident that SCDP is in the midst of securing North American Aviation as a client. This deal has been in process since the "[[The Jet Set]]", in which Don and Pete went to California.
The next day Betty receives a knock on the door, on the other side it is the Department of Defense. Inviting them in, they explain to Betty that the purpose of their visit is to ask Betty routine questions about Don's background, due to the fact he has requested a security clearance on the back of doing business with the government. They ask Betty questions such as; how long were they married? Is Donald Draper a man of integrity? Is there any reason Don may not be who he says he is? To which Betty answers all the questions as if Don has nothing to hide, withholding her nervous. She then calls Don to tell him about the ordeal. It is then revealed that Megan had already filled out a government document which Don had already signed two weeks ago, in which the form has three lies about his background forwarded from his employment records. In a nervous panic Don orders he sees Pete immediately. Later Don reminds Pete that he is a deserter, and he must get rid of the account

They explain to Betty that the purpose of their visit is to ask her routine questions about Don's background, since he will need a security clearance to do business with the government. They ask Betty questions. How long were they married? Is Donald Draper a man of integrity? Is there any reason Don may not be who he says he is? Betty answers all the questions as if Don has nothing to hide, suppressing her discomfort. She then calls Don to tell him about the interrogation. It is then revealed that Megan filled out a government document two weeks ago, and Don signed this form without realizing that it contained three lies about his background, taken from his employment records. Don demands to meet with Pete. Don reminds Pete that he is a deserter, and says that SCDP must get rid of the North American Aviation account immediately.

Joan comforts the woman, mistaking Joan's concern she assumes Joan has a daughter who is going through the same thing she is, not realizing Joan is the pregnant one. Out of consideration for the mother, Joan lies saying she has a 15 year old daughter.

At dinner with Lee Garner, Jr - Roger gets threatening news that Lucky Strike have decided to withdraw all their business from SCDP, he explains that since Lee Garner, Sr. had passed the Board of American Tobacco "went over his head" to consolidate all business at BBDO. Outraged Roger pleads with Lee to give him a least 30 days to at least try and keep him as a client, to which Lee responds to giving him an empty promise.
 
   
 
Preparing for the worst, Don tries to get his finances in line for the benefit of his children and Betty.
Faye drops by Don's office, there she notices Don has a fever - she the offers to take him home. Once at home, Don experiences a panic attack after he mistakes two men for the government workers. When Joan comforts the woman, she assumes Joan has a daughter who is going through the same thing. Out of consideration for the mother, Joan lies, and invents a 15 year old daughter.
Lane attempts once again to try and introduce Robert into his new life in Manhattan, arranging a formal dinner between himself, his father and Toni. Telling Toni he cannot attend due to the fact he is flying back to London the next day, Robert tells Toni to go without him, pretending he doesn't want to compromise Toni and Lane's evening. He orders Lane to allow Toni to go ahead, while alone Robert asks one more time for Lane to go back to London to which Lane refuses again. Robert then strikes Lane across the head with his cane, and then stands on his arm eventually forcing Lane to say "yes" to coming home, to sort his family out. He tells Lane that he cannot live in between infidelity and fidelity, Robert eventually leaves leaving Lane wounded.
