Synopsis

This episode focuses on Pete Campbell and Peggy Olson as their life paths diverge. In the elevator at the office, Peggy runs into Joyce, a Life Magazine editor carrying a folder of nude female photos. Joyce seems interested in Peggy, and eventually tracks her down at SCDP, inviting her to the nude photographer's party downtown. Peggy attends the party that night, smoking pot and laughing at Joyce's advances. She tells Joyce that she has a boyfriend, and Joyce responds "He doesn't own your vagina." "No, but he's renting it!" Peggy chuckles. Suddenly, the lights go out and police raid the party. Joyce's writer friend Abe pulls Peggy into a closet and kisses her.

Pete Campbell discovers that Trudy is pregnant. He uses fatherhood to his advantage, boldly telling his father in law that his Clearasil account is a conflict of interest with the bigger Ponds account and demanding $6 million of business or none at all. He is successful, finally earning some kudos at SCDP.

Cold and conniving Dr. Faye Miller drags all of the young, unmarried secretaries into a focus group for Ponds Cold Cream, pretending to be a young single girl to make them feel more comfortable with spilling their secrets. The girls chat about beauty routines while Peggy and the men observe from the other side of a two-way mirror. When the conversation turns to men and rejection, the women break down into tears. Allison flees the room sobbing, and Peggy tries to make her feel better unsuccessfully. Allison implies that Peggy understands her troubles since she has feelings for Don, too, and Peggy snaps "your problem is NOT my problem." Allison reads Don the riot act and resigns, asking for a letter of recommendation. Don suggests that she write whatever she wants and give it to him to sign, and she smashes a cigarette holder against the wall in fury, yelling "you are not a good person!" on her way out of the office.
